Words of kindness are works of kindness, and since they cost so little and are worth so much, we should strew them plentifully all along life's way. ~Modern Proverbs
Ha! And my friend accuse me of being online all the time. They must phone during the 25 percent of the time, not the 75 percent. posted by deborah

Wow! It's been a long time since I've updated this page.
I haven't been ignoring it on purpose. No, really! I guess I have just been having too much fun in the sun. The family and I just got back from a week long camping trip. That was a treat. The place where we camp is next to a river. I actually got in and swam. I hadn't gone swimming for years. It pleased me that I hadn't forgotten how. The children thought it was cool that their old Aunt Debby got into the river with them.
The other fun during camping was playing horseshoes. You can have baseball and all of that, my game is horeseshoes. It is good that I have four teenagers (well one of them is 11) who enjoy pitching. They seldom beat me, though they give it a good try. Especially the oldest (he's turning 15 in September). He has made it into a mission to beat me. He usually wins 2 out of 10 games, but I think in the very near future he is going to start winning more than he loses. That's okay, as long as he doesn't gloat like he is wont to do.
1. What is your favorite snack food? Does anyone you know have weird tastes in snacks? My favorite snack food is potato chips. Of course, now that I am trying to lose weight I don't let them come into the house! My husband has the weirdest tastes: avacado sandwiches, tomato and biscuit sandwiches, cornbread crumbled up in buttermilk.
2. Ever caught yourself saying "well it can't get any worse" and it does? What's the story there? Yes, last August, just before I went into the hospital for an appendectomy.
3. I have a super-short attention span, and it always was my downfall in school, especially math class. What's your attention span like and how has it served you? I have a normal attention span. My problem is that once I get focused on a project, such as writing a poem or reading a book, I am not aware of anything that is going on around me. The children take dreadful advantage of that.
4. Do you believe in the existence of extra-terrestrials? No
5. What do you think of the whole "crop circles" phenomenon? It's a rather bad joke perpetrated on folks who really should know better.
6. Ever had a time where you begin visiting with someone you don't know all that well and just find you "click" like long lost pals? Tell me about how that came to happen, and who was it? What kind of things do you have in common? That happened to me when I was in the hospital last year. The nurse who was taking care of me was easy to talk to and she felt the same way about me. It didn't develop into a friendship, though.
7. When I was at the cemetery a few weeks ago, I began to recall my Dad's funeral so many years ago. It is so vivid, sitting there in the family room as his friends passed by and paid their respects, the music, his face, the tears. What funeral do you remember most vividly? My father died 15 years ago. I suppose that is the one I remember most because it was the first lose of a close family member.
BONUS: How can I forget you, girl? You can't, so don't try! This week's comment topic: Are ya Left or Right handed? I'm right-handed except when I apply nail polish to the nails on my right hand. I am also learning how to pitch horseshoes left handed so if my right shoulder or elbow gives out I will still be able to toss the shoes.
1. Have you had to repair anything lately? Did you do it yourself or have someone else do it? My husband is the repair guy around here. If anything breaks, I give it to him. The only thing he doesn't repair himself is the big jobs, like a new roof on the house.
2. Do you work out or exercise? Or is there anything you do each day for your health? Yes, I exercise. I try to walk at least a mile a day. This is part of a weight loss regime I started recently. My goal is to lose one hundred pounds! Whew! I keep track of my progress on my other blog The Agreeable Companion.
3. Are you a modest person? That is, would you be embarrassed for someone (an acquaintance, a friend, a stranger) to see you nude? Yes, I think I am a modest person. No one except my husband and possibly my doctor has seen me naked.
4. Some smells that I just can not stand are bags of grass clippings that have sat in the hot sun for a few days, burned hair and vomit (although, thankfully, I have not had to smell them all at the same time). What are some odors that you just can not stand to smell? My neighbor has a hedge that fronts his property. It is about 60 feet long. In the summer it is covered with blossoms that have a very strong smell. I can't walk past it when it is in bloom because the smell from those blossoms makes it difficult to breath. It's the same way with the soap and detergent isle at the grocery store. I can't go down it because the smell from all those cleaners makes it difficult to breath.
5. Are there any social situations that make you uncomfortable? Gee, I don't know. I don't like being around a whole bunch of strangers, or being the center of attention.
6. Has a friend or an employer ever asked you to do something you felt was unethical or? What was it and what happened? No, an employer has never asked me to do something unethical. 7. (continued) Well, we are not yet at our destination, though the way you described it, it sounds simply amazing. What is the first thing we should do once we get there? Go see a good movie.
BONUS: In this whole world, what is fair? John 3:16
1. Your six-year-old son likes to play with BarbieŽ dolls. Do you discourage him? Yes, I discourage him. We still live in an era where there is a stigma attached to boys who like to play Barbie dolls.
2. When you make a big sale, your boss surprises you you with a warm, lingering hug. Do you tell your boss you're not comfortable with this? Yes, unless he's really good-looking and I enjoyed the kiss :-)
3. You invent a new kitchen aid. You can make four times more if you manufacture it in Asia where workers are paid a survival wage. Do you? No, I sell the patent to a big corporation for mega bucks. Then live in a style to which I've always wanted to become accustomed.
1. Where are you right now? At home, at the computer (obviously!), piddling around until nine pm when I am going to watch the "So Bad It's Good" theatre on the local PBS. Tonight's feature is "Aliens from Space" or some such. 2. What have you lost recently? I lost my walking cane. I used it one morning and hung it up in its usual place beside the Grandfather clock. When I went to get it the next morning, it was gone. I found it three days later under the bed. You figure it out! I think the little men who paint in the minutes got mighty confused (an old Twilight Zone, or was it The Outer Limits?). 3. What was the first CD you ever purchased? The first CD I purchased was by Doc Watson--"On Praying Ground." No that doesn't embarrass me. It is a mighty good recording.
4. What is your favorite kind of writing pen? Fine point, black ink.
5. What is your favorite ice cream flavor? French Vanilla!
